MVPs and Emerging Players: Every IPL Award Winner Since 2008
Narine has three MVP awards. The Emerging Player list reads like a who's who of Indian cricket.

Alongside the Orange and Purple Caps, the IPL hands out two season awards that often start long arguments: the Most Valuable Player, for the season's best all-round performer, and the Emerging Player of the Season, for a young player early in his career.

The award rewards impact with bat and ball, which is why all-rounders do so well. Sunil Narine is the only three-time winner, first as a mystery spinner in 2012 and most recently, in 2024, as an explosive opening batter as well. Shane Watson and Andre Russell have won it twice each.

Read down the list and you find a remarkable number of future India stars. Rohit Sharma won it in 2009 and went on to captain his country. Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal all won it before becoming established international players.

The award is not only for Indian players. Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman won it in 2016 for his cutters with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Winning more than one prize
- Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Emerging Player award and the Orange Cap in 2021, and Chennai won the title too.
- Sai Sudharsan did the same double in 2025, with 759 runs for Gujarat Titans.
- Shubman Gill was Emerging Player in 2019 and came back in 2023 to win both the MVP award and the Orange Cap.
- Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Chris Gayle (2011), Virat Kohli (2016), Harshal Patel (2021) and Jos Buttler (2022) each won the MVP award in the same season as a cap.
The Emerging Player award tends to spot talent early. The MVP award tells you who a season actually belonged to.
